Weltevrede Akkommodasie (previously known as NG Kerk Oornaghuis) was established through the vision of Hanna Hopkins, spouse of Ds Hopkins (former archivist) and secretary of the hospital ministry at Groote Schuur Hospital. Through her contact with patients, she discovered their need for accommodation for long-term medical care for both them and their families. House Hanna Hopkins was established in 1978 in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town.
A similar need was identified for the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town and during 1983 Daan du Toit Kerkhuis was established opposite Tygerberg Hospital through the monetary contribution of congregations in the area. This was sold during 2000 to be further used by Stellenbosch University for their medical students and the money was used to build NG Kerk Oornaghuis in Bellville, which was designed to provide an atmosphere of warmth and empathy.
On 19 February 2001, the NG Kerk Oornaghuis was unveiled by Ds Willie van der Merwe, a former minister in charge of sinodal service of compassion.
Weltevrede Akkommodasie is a programme of Badisa and is managed by a well-represented, independent governing body consisting of various professionals. They manage the affairs of the facility in conjunction with the manager and staff.
